RHP Steve Hirschfeld Returns; INF Whit Robbins Goes To Disabled List

May 3, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain - The New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League had two roster transactions today, and each involved players with shoulder woes.

RHP Steve Hirschfeld, the 24-year-old relief specialist out of San Diego State University, has rejoined New Britain's active roster after having recovered from shoulder stiffness. A 9th Round selection by the Minnesota Twins in the 2007 Draft, the Moab, UT resident made just three bullpen appearances for the 2010 Rock Cats prior to going on the DL in mid-April. He spent all of 2009 at Single-A Ft. Myers in the Florida State League where he was 7-7 with a 2.23 ERA. The 6'5"/226-pound hurler will be back in uniform tonight when the Rock Cats play a 6:35 PM game in Manchester, NH against the Fisher Cats.

INF Whit Robbins, the 25-year-old Georgia Tech product in his second season with the Rock Cats, has gone on the Disabled List with a sore left shoulder. The 2009 Eastern League All-Star recently experienced discomfort in the shoulder and will be evaluated further by the Rock Cats medical staff. Selected in the 4th Round of the 2006 Draft, the left-handed swinging Robbins had appeared in 16 games for the 2010 Rock Cats, and departs with a .146 BA. In 2009, the 6'0"/202-pounder batted a clutch .278 with 23 Doubles and 9 HRs over 117 games in a New Britain uniform.

Both moves are effective immediately.
