Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release

RICHMOND, VA - Richmond Flying Squirrels' right-hander Daryl Maday has been named as the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 25th - May 2nd. Maday made two starts during the week, winning both while allowing just two runs on 12 hits over 11 2/3 innings pitched (1.54). He struck out seven while defeating the New Britain Rock Cats at New Britain Stadium and the Bowie Baysox at The Diamond. The weekly award is the first weekly honor received by a Flying Squirrel in the franchise's short history.

All told on the season, the 24-year old is 4-0 with an ERA of 1.19. His ERA is currently the second lowest in the Eastern League. He has recorded a victory in each of his last four starts, and combined through five outings has allowed just four earned runs over 30 1/3 innings. His four wins are tied for the most in the Eastern League with three other hurlers.

A native of Bristol, Wisconsin, Maday is currently in his third season at the Double-A level. He anchored the starting rotation for the Connecticut Defenders in 2009, leading the Defenders in starts (25) and innings pitched (135.2), while posting a record of 6-6 and an ERA of 4.25. He also made four appearances with Connecticut in 2008.

A fourth-year professional, Maday was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 30th round of the 2006 MLB first-year player draft out of Arkansas University. He graduated from Wetosha (AI) High School.

The Flying Squirrels open a four-game series with the Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates) at The Diamond on Monday night at 7:05 PM. Tickets are available and can be purchased by visiting the team's ticket office at The Diamond, calling (804) 359-FUNN (3866) or logging on to SquirrelsBaseball.com.
