May 3, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release

AKRON, OH - The Aeros announced today that Tribe closer Kerry Wood will rehab with the Aeros tonight at Canal Park. Wood, who has been rehabbing after straining his back in Arizona during spring training, has not pitched in a live game since early spring and will require more than one rehab stint.

Wood, who originally was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the first round in the 1995 draft, pitched in 58 games last season with the Tribe where he recorded 20 saves in 26 chances.

A first-round pick (4th overall) of the Chicago Cubs in 1995, Wood has played 11 seasons in his Major League career and has played in a total of 334 total Major League games. Wood was drafted by the Chicago and played with the Cubs for his entire career before signing on with the Tribe at the beginning of last year. Wood won Rookie of the Year honors in 1998 as a member of the Cubs after going 13-6. Wood is well known for his performance on May 6, 1998 when he struck out 20 Houston Astros, which tied Roger Clemens' record for strikeouts in a nine-inning game. In his 10-year career with the Cubs, Wood went 77-61 the majority of which came as a starter. The Tribe signed Wood to a deal worth around $10.5 million for the 2010 season.

The Aeros continue their defense of their 2009 Eastern League Championship at home tonight at 7:05 against the Trenton Thunder. For more information on tickets and all the other festivities planned at Canal Park in 2010, please visit the Aeros online at www.akronaeros.com or call (330) 253-5151.
