
Thunder hold on for victory

(Norwich, CT)- Thunder Center fielder Austin Jackson had four hits and scored three runs to lead Trenton past Connecticut 9-6 on Monday night from Dodd Stadium in Norwich, CT. Trenton has now won five consecutive games after a six-game losing streak.
Trenton (69-44) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning off of Connecticut Starting pitcher Daryl Maday (0-1). With one out in the first, Shortstop Ramiro Pena walked. Jackson followed with an RBI double to give Trenton a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame, Left fielder Colin Curtis ripped a three-run home run over the right field wall for his sixth home run of the season. The Thunder added three runs in the third inning to make it 7-0. Designated hitter Kevin Russo, First baseman Cody Ehlers, and Right Fielder James Cooper all had RBI singles in the inning. Trenton chased Maday from the game in the fourth inning. Third Baseman Chris Malec connected on an RBI triple to extend the lead to 8-0. Later in the frame, a sacrifice fly by Curtis capped off the scoring for Trenton. Maday took the loss as he allowed 10 hits and nine runs in 3 1/3 innings.
Thunder Starting pitcher Eric Hacker (6-2) picked up his first win since July 10th by going six innings. He gave up eight hits and three runs (two earned). Connecticut (55-58) scored a run in the fourth, two in the sixth, and three in the seventh inning, to close the deficit to 9-6. Designated hitter Adam Witter had a two-run single for Connecticut in the sixth inning. An RBI walk by Shortstop Kyle Haines, and sacrifice flies by Third baseman Ryan Rohlinger and Right fielder Carlos Sosa accounted for the three runs in the Connecticut seventh inning. All three runs in the seventh inning came against Thunder reliever Zach Kroenke. Thunder reliever Jose Valdez closed the door for Trenton as he went the final 2 1/3 hitless innings for his third save for Trenton. Jackson went 4 x 5 for the Thunder with two doubles and three runs. It was Jackson's third four-hit game of the season. Curtis had his first four-RBI game of the season, and Cooper had his first three-hit game for the Thunder.
Trenton and Connecticut play the middle game of the three-game series on Tuesday night at Dodd Stadium. RHP Steven White (0-0, 10.12) will make his second start of the season for the Thunder. He will be opposed by Connecticut RHP Dave McKae (6-6, 4.39). Game time is set for 6:35 p.m.
