
Sens escape with win over Erie

Erie, PA - The Harrisburg Senators had just enough in an 8-7 win over the Erie SeaWolves, Monday at Jerry Uht Park. Seth Bynum fell a triple shy of the cycle and drove in four runs as the Senators pounded out 18 hits.
LHP Cory VanAllen made his first start for Harrisburg since May 28th and went five innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, no walks and three strikeouts. He didn't figure in the decision.
The Senators jumped on the SeaWolves in the top of the 2nd. Seth Bynum stroked a two-out RBI single to left to make it 1-0 Harrisburg.
Erie came back with four runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Four straight SeaWolves reached as James Skelton and Caonabo Cosme hit back-to-back one-out singles. Will Rhymes followed with a single that got past the right fielder and a run scored to tie the game at 1-1. Then, Casper Wells hit a triple past the center fielder to drive in a pair and give Erie a 3-1 lead. Two batters later, Ryan Roberson drilled an RBI double down the left-field line to make it 4-1.
The Senators chipped into the deficit in the top of the 5th when Ian Desmond hammered a two-run homer to cut it to 4-3.
The SeaWolves extended the margin in the bottom of the 5th on Wilkin Ramirez's RBI double to make it 5-3.
The Senators tied the game in the top of the 6th. Marvin Lowrance hit a leadoff double, Devin Ivany reached on an infield single and Seth Bynum followed with an RBI double down the right-field line to cut it to 5-4. Two batters later, Desmond stroked an RBI single to make it a 5-5 game.
Harrisburg took a lead in the top of the 8th. Lowrance led off with a single off the wall in left. Two batters later, Bynum hammered a two-run homer to left to give the Senators a 7-5 advantage.
The Senators tacked on an insurance run in the top of the 9th. Jemel Spearman hit a leadoff double and went to third on a single by Bill Rhinehart. Ofilio Castro followed with a high chopper on the infield and Spearman beat the throw to the plate to make it 8-5 on a run-scoring fielder's choice.
Erie got back into it in the bottom of the 9th against RHP Adam Carr. Deik Scram drew a four-pitch leadoff walk and Santo De Leon followed with a two-run homer to left-center to cut it to an 8-7 lead.
RHP Carlos Martinez worked two scoreless innings to pick up the win and move to 3-1 as a Senator. RHP Matt Rusch took the loss to even his record at 1-1. Carr notched the save, his 10th.
The Senators improved to 64-51. Erie fell to 51-66.
The Senators and SeaWolves continue the three-game series Tuesday at 7:05 PM. Harrisburg sends RHP Bobby Brownlie (8-1, 3.38 ERA) to the mound against SeaWolves LHP Luke French (5-11, 4.22 ERA).
