Aerodynamics...

It's Political...After two innings of yesterday's game, it seemed the Senators might be on their way to a rout of Akron after gaining a 4-0 lead. The Aeros, though, countered with five in the bottom of the third before Harrisburg responded with three in the next half-inning to take a 7-5 lead, which would remain as the final margin in Sunday's homestand and series finale at Canal Park. The Senators jumped to the early lead when a single and two walks loaded the bases for Mike Daniel, who slugged a grand slam on a 3-2 offering from Aeros starter Kevin Dixon. In Akron's half of the third however, the first three men reached on singles, loading the bases for RF Bronson Sardinha, who sliced a double into the left-field corner to clear the bases. C Wyatt Toregas later added an RBI single to tie the game, and DH Ryan Goleski put up the final run with a sacrifice fly to give Akron a 5-4 lead. In the fourth, though, the Senators tacked on three runs, beginning with ex-Aero Javi Herrera's leadoff home run that tied the game. Bill Rhinehart and Marvin Lowrance each tallied RBIs to finish off the inning and the scoring. Both bullpens entered the game early and combined to toss 10.1 scoreless innings. Dixon went just three innings, while Harrisburg starter Zack Segovia worked 4.2 innings.

Walking Nowhere...In Friday night's 3-1, 10-inning loss to Harrisburg, the Aeros tied a season-high by drawing nine walks. However, their only run in that game came on a solo home run by 1B Stephen Head, as none of the nine players who walked scored. Akron's offense followed that up by drawing six walks in yesterday's matinee, and only one of them came around to score as Head walked and later scored on DH Ryan Goleski's sacrifice fly. So in the two losses to Harrisburg, Akron drew a total of 15 walks but got only one of those runners around to score, which is not a good sign for the one of the Eastern League's most patient offensive teams (3.9 walks per game). Over the entire course of the series, the Aeros scored 10 runs but stranded 28 runners, including 12 in scoring position.

Home Field Struggles...The Aeros scored just 37 runs over this 10-game homestand, which they finished with a 5-5 record. Only one regular finished the homestand with a plus-.300 batting average: RF/1B Stephen Head hit .359 (14-39) with five doubles, two home runs, four RBI, and seven runs scored while playing in all 10 games, raising his season average to .311.

Rear-View Mirror...After winning 15 of 19 heading into the All-Star break, the Aeros have lost 12 of their last 19 coming out of the break, falling back into the mire of the Southern Division playoff race. Akron still leads the division by 1.5 games over Bowie and 4.5 games over the Senators, but have lost six games in the standing since holding a 7.5-game lead July 12th.
