Portland Sea Dogs News Release

(Reading, PA)- Jorge Jimenez's broken-bat single to center field scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th inning as the Sea Dogs beat Reading (47-68) Monday night, 6-5. The win is the ‘Dogs 60th victory of the season (60-51) to begin an important 9-game road trip.

The winning rally in the 11th began with a one-out infield single by Iggy Suarez. He advanced to second base on a Bryan Pritz ground-out. Jimenez would then drive him home with the single off reliever Patrick Overholt (3-8), who suffered the loss for Reading.

Sea Dogs' starter Dustin Richardson would struggle for the second straight outing. In the first inning, he allowed four runs on just one hit. The scoring for the Phillies started with back-to-back walks followed by a hit batter. Neil Sellers and Mike Eylward would each draw bases loaded walks before catcher John Suomi smacked a 2-run single to make it 4-0.

The Phillies would get their 5th run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Richardson (ND) would load the bases on a single, a double, and a walk before giving way to Daniel Bard. Bard would walk the first batter he faced, Greg Golson, to drive in the final run charged to Richardson. Richardson would last just 3.2 innings, giving up 5 earned runs on 3 hits and 5 walks.

After Bard walked in the Phillies' 5th run, the ‘Dogs bullpen was nearly untouchable. Bard (2.1ip), Daniel Haigwood (one inning), and Miguel Asencio (three innings) would retire 15 straight and 19 of 20 to keep the ‘Dogs in the game. Asencio allowed a two-out single in the ninth inning but worked a perfect 10th. Beau Vaughan recorded his 16th save of the season with a 1-2-3, 11th inning on eight pitches.

In the top of the second inning, though, the ‘Dogs began their comeback. Josh Reddick and Argenis Diaz delivered back-to-back sacrifice flies to make it 4-2 Reading. In the 3rd, the ‘Dogs would tie it on an RBI double by Zach Daeges and a run-scoring ground-out by John Otness.

In the 8th inning, Anderson would tie the game once again on his first Double-A homerun, a solo shot to left field to tie the game at five. Anderson now has 6 RBI's in his last five games.

Portland and Reading play game two of their 3-game series on Tuesday night at First Energy Stadium. RHP Ryne Lawson (1st appearance) makes his Double-A debut against RHP Adam Eaton, who will be making his first start since being sent to Reading from the Philadelphia Phillies. Catch all the action on the U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network beginning at 6:40 PM with the Correct Deck Pre-Game Show.

Notes...Jorge Jimenez extended his hitting streak to seven straight games...Daniel Bard has 91 strikeouts between Single-A Greenville and Double-A Portland...Josh Reddick has 77 RBI's between Greenville, Lancaster and Portland...Beau Vaughan has given up one earned run in his last 31.1 IP.
