Curve blanked in loss

ALTOONA - Akron hurlers Scott Lewis, Reid Santos and Scott Roehl combined to toss a three-hit shutout as the Aeros blanked the Curve 7-0 on Monday night at Blair County Ballpark.

The loss sends the Curve (51-65) to their sixth straight defeat, which ties a season high.

Lewis, (6-2) allowed just one hit and struck out a season-high 10 batters over 5 2/3 innings. At one point, Lewis retired 13 consecutive Curve hitters.

The first-place Aeros (69-47) got to Curve starter Kyle Bloom (2-7) for six runs. Bloom allowed 10 hits and walked three batters in 4 1/3 innings.

In the top of the fifth, the Aeros sent 10 men to the plate and scored four of their seven runs. Five straight batters reached base off Bloom (four hits and a walk) before he was lifted in favor of Pat Bresnehan. Bresnehan was charged with one run in one inning.

Akron also scored single runs in the first, fourth and seventh inning.

The only Curve hits in the game came off the bats of Jim Negrych in the first inning, Brad Corley in the seventh and a double from Jamie Romak in the ninth inning.

The Curve return to action on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Jared Hughes (0-1, 9.00) will make his second Double-A start, as he was recently recalled from Lynchburg (A-Advanced). The Aeros will counter with right-hander Frank Herrmann (9-4, 4.55).

Tuesday at BCB is Hank's Bark in the Park Night. Fans are invited to bring their dogs to the park and sit in the UPMC Health Plan Home Run Junction (outfield reserve). Fans will be entertained with a performance from Skyy Dogs USA and Rockin' Ray. The first 500 canines through the gates (all breeds) will receive a Bob the Baseball Dog Doggie Dish.
