Thunder announces 2009-10 schedule

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder, in conjunction with the Central Hockey League, announced its 2009-10 schedule on Thursday.

The CHL once again features a 64-game schedule, which runs from October 16th through March 20th. The Thunder begins play on Friday, October 16th when they host the Amarillo Gorillas at the Kansas Coliseum. The following night, Wichita welcomes the Mississippi Riverkings. Both games begin at 7:05 p.m.

The Thunder remains in the Northern Conference which now features seven teams. The Thunder will compete with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, Colorado Eagles, Mississippi Riverkings, Rapid City Rush, Tulsa Oilers, and the expansion Missouri Mavericks.

On October 30th and 31st, the Thunder play their first ever games against the expansion Missouri Mavericks. Two months later, the Thunder hosts another expansion team when the Allen Americans visit Wichita on New Year's Eve.

The Thunder continues its rivalry with the Tulsa Oilers throughout the season. The two original members of the CHL square off a total of 10 times, beginning with a home-and-home series on October 23rd and 24th.

One of the most anticipated games of the season will be on Saturday, January 23rd when the Thunder and Oilers open the brand new downtown arena. Wichita's final game at the Kansas Coliseum is on Saturday, January 9th versus the Odessa Jackalopes.

After seeing them only three times last season, the Thunder faces the defending Northern Conference Champion Colorado Eagles eight times in 2009-10, including four matches in Wichita.
