Odessa Jackalopes News Release

(Odessa, TX) - The Odessa Jackalopes announced today that their official schedule for the 2009-2010 Central Hockey League season has been released.

The team will open the season at home on October 16th against the Corpus Christi IceRays and head to Amarillo the next night for a game against the rival Gorillas.

"Well Corpus was a playoff team last year, and they will be much better this season," said head coach Paul Gillis. "Then with Amarillo being in our division it won't be an easy start to the season so our guys will have to be ready and I'm excited to start the season with a test like that and see what we're doing well and what we need to work on."

Other early key dates include November 19th, which will be a Southern Conference Finals rematch as the Jackalopes host the CHL Champion, Texas Brahmas, for time of the season. The Brahmas will also be a part of Odessa's three-game weekend celebrating New Year's Eve. Texas and Odessa play on December 31st, then the Jacks will face Amarillo on New Year's Day and Corpus Christi on January 2nd.

"Legends Weekend" will occur for the second straight year over the last weekend of February, as the Jackalopes will host the Gorillas on February 26th and 27th for that event. The former Jackalopes players to participate in that event will be announced later this season.

Odessa's fans will have a chance to see the expansion Allen Americans and Missouri Mavericks, as well as the Rapid City Rush - who are entering their second season, but did not play Odessa last year. The Jackalopes will not play the Tulsa Oilers or Wichita Thunder in 2009-2010.

"We're happy with how the schedule panned out for us, and especially our fans," said Jackalopes GM Joe Clark. "We're excited about our New Year's Weekend, as well as Legend's Weekend planned for the late February. The schedule is balanced from month to month in terms of home games vs. road games, and we're pleased about that."

The Jackalopes will close this season on March 20th at home, hosting the Rapid City Rush.

Out of the 12 different teams the Jackalopes will see this season, Amarillo and Arizona are the most common opponents. Odessa will play the Gorillas 11 times this season and Arizona 10 times.
