NORFOLK - The Norfolk Admirals (32-19-1-7) scored three unanswered goals in the second period to defeat the Hershey Bears (30-22-3-4), 3-1, on Saturday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.

Norfolk 's John Gibson (18-13-4) st opped 23 of 24 shots while Hershey's David Leggio (16-10-0) turned away 18 of 21 shots. Andre Petersson recorded his first goal as an Admiral and Emerson Etem assisted on two goals.

Michael Latta got Hershey on the board first with a rebound goal in front of Gibson at 9:48 of the opening period. The Bears kept the Admirals away from Leggio's crease for the majority of the first and Norfolk only managed to get five pucks to the Hershey net.

In the second period, Norfolk frequently found space in Bears' territory on the way to exploding for three goals. Playing in his second game with Norfolk, Andre Petersson jumped out from behind the Hershey net to hook a backhander past Leggio. His first goal as an Admiral arrived at 9:46 in the second.

Later in the frame, winger Steven Whitney slid a pass across the low slot for Chris Wagner who swatted the puck up and over Leggio's outstretched left leg to give Norfolk a 2-1 lead. Wagner's 10th of the season put the Admirals up at 14:18 of the second period.

Norfolk struck again with less than two minutes remaining in the stanza. Kevin Gagne sent a shot from the right point that Max Friberg deflected between Leggio's left skate and the post. The puck trickled across the goal line at 18:14 and sent the Admirals into the locker room with a 3-1 lead.

Gibson and Norfolk kept the puck out of their net in the third period to salvage two points and even the weekend series with Hershey. The win and Binghamton's loss to Utica in a shootout gives the Admirals sole possession of first place in the East Division and third place in the Eastern Conference.

Norfolk went 1-for-6 on the power play and Hershey went 1-for-2.
