Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch were defeated by the Rochester Americans, 5-3, tonight at the War Memorial. The loss brings the Crunch's record to 22-26-4-5 and 4-2-0-0 in the season series against I-90 rival Rochester.

Crunch netminder Cedrick Desjardins stopped 16 of 19 shots in defeat, while Americans netminder Nathan Lieuwen stopped 28 of 31 shots. Syracuse converted on one of six power-play chances and allowed two power-play goals on six Rochester man advantages.

After a scoreless first period, Vladislav Namestnikov put the Crunch on the board at the 5:13 mark of the second period with a shorthanded goal. Namestnikov found the back of the net on a breakaway following a lead pass from Brett Connolly pass. Five minutes later the Americans evened the score during four-on-four play on Johan Larsson's first of two goals. Luke Adam gave the Americans a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at the 10:57 mark, which they carried into the second intermission.

Cedric Paquette tied the game two minutes into the third period on a centering feed from Jon DiSalvatore. Jordan Henry was credited with the secondary assist. Rochester took back the lead at 5:12 of the third when Larsson scored a power-play goal off a backhand, cross-crease pass from Jamie Tardif. Phil Varone got the secondary assist. After the Crunch pulled Desjardins for an extra attacker, Varone scored on an empty Syracuse net with 1:26 left in the third. Evan Rankin retaliated a minute later when he scored on a six-on-four power play off the rebound of a Paquette shot set up by Connolly. With 17 seconds left, Mike Zigomanis found the empty net again to make the final score 5-3 Rochester.

The Crunch face the Binghamton Senators 3 p.m. Sunday at the War Memorial Arena.
