
Pirates Recall Justin Weller from Gwinnett; Sign Sam Klassen to PTO

Saco, Maine - Phoenix Coyotes Assistant General Manager and Portland Pirates General Manager Brad Treliving announced today that the Portland Pirates have recalled defenseman Justin Weller from the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL. In addition, Treliving also announced that the Pirates have signed defenseman Sam Klassen to a professional tryout contract (PTO).
Weller was drafted by the Coyotes in the fourth round, 105th overall, in 2009 and has spent the last two years with the Gwinnett Gladiators after playing for the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL from 2007-2012. This season in Gwinnett, the 6'3, 211 lbs. Weller has two goals and seven assists in 40 games with 34 penalty minutes.
Klassen appeared in nine games for the Hartford Wolf Pack this season, tallying a goal and an assist, and in 41 games for the Greenville Road Warriors of the ECHL, totaling one goal and nine assists. The 6'1, 196 lbs. native of Watrous, Saskatoon has appeared in 253 professional games between the ECHL and the AHL.
The Pirates travel to Worcester to take on the Sharks tonight at 7 PM. Tonight's game can be heard on the Pirates flagship stations WPEI 95.5/95.9 FM as well as WEZR FM 105.5/AM 1240 in the Lewiston/Auburn area and WTME AM 780/1450 in Oxford County.
