Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch are bringing three-time World Series Champion Darryl Strawberry to Syracuse on April 8 when the team takes on the Albany Devils at 7 p.m.
Strawberry spent 17 seasons as a right fielder in Major League Baseball from 1983 to 1999. His first eight seasons were with the New York Mets after being selected in the first round, first overall, in the 1980 MLB amateur draft. He went on to spend three seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, one with the San Francisco Giants and his final five with the New York Yankees. He finished his career with 335 home runs, 1,000 RBIs and 221 stolen bases.
During his time in the MLB, Strawberry was a stand out player and helped his teams win three World Series. He first claimed the championship in 1986 with the Mets and again in 1996 and 1999 with the Yankees. He was named Rookie of the Year in 1983, putting up 30 home runs and 19 stolen bases. He had an outstanding season in 1988, winning the National League Silver Slugger and finishing first in the league in home runs (39), OBS (.911) and SLG (.545) and second in RBI (101). He won the award again in 1990. Strawberry was also named to the NL All-Star Team eight consecutive times from 1984 to 1991.
Strawberry will participate in a ceremonial puck drop before signing autographs in Memorial Hall during the first intermission.
