Crunch Roll Past Devils, 3-1, for Season-Long Win Streak
March 25, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch rolled past the Albany Devils, 3-1, for the first time this season to build a season-long four-game win streak tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
Dylan Blujus opened scoring in the first period before Ben Johnson evened it up halfway through the frame. The Crunch held Albany to just one goal as Ryan Martindale and Jonathan Drouin both found the back of the net to give Syracuse the victory.
Crunch goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis earned his fourth consecutive win allowing only one goal on 30 shots. His counterpart, Yann Danis, recorded the loss, turning aside 17 of 20. The Crunch were unable to convert on two power play opportunities, while they stopped both Devils man-advantages.
Blujus opened scoring with his sixth goal of the season to put the Crunch on top 8:41 into the first period. Tye McGinn's shot went off the post and kicked right for Matthew Peca to circle it back up to the top. Blujus then beat Danis from the right point.
The Devils were quick to even the score just three minutes later when Johnson tallied his second of the year with the help of Justin Crandall. However, Syracuse stole it back before the period came to a close. After Slater Koekkoek forced a Devils turnover, Martindale skated the puck back in the zone and threw it across the slot on a give-and-go with Yanni Gourde. He backhanded the return pass to put the Crunch back up, 2-1.
After a scoreless second period, the Crunch added one more in the final frame to secure a victory. Adam Erne rushed the puck up the ice and fed Drouin. The left-winger redirected Erne's pass for his third goal in his last two games. Tanner Richard recorded the secondary helper.
The win advances Syracuse to 29-25-10-3 on the season and keeps the Crunch in the hunt for a playoff position with a .530 points percentage.
The Crunch return to the War Memorial to host The Rochester Americans tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
