After a scoreless first period Wild forward Brady Brassart scored 1:41 into the second, helping the Wild grab a 1-0 lead. Forward Marc Hagel notched the lone assist on the goal. Hagel caused a turnover in the offensive zone, giving Brassart the puck along the goal line to the right of the net. Brassart banked the puck off goalie Jordan Binnington and into the net for his fourth goal of the season.
Wolves forward Jeremy Welsh scored 1:11 into the third period, tying the game 1-1. Defenseman Scooter Vaughan picked up the assist on the goal. Vaughan took a slapshot from the left point with Welsh providing a screen. Goalie Steve Michalek made the initial save, but Vaughan slipped the rebound under Michalek as he fell to the ice for his 15th goal of the season. Iowa defenseman Christian Folin scored at 9:06 of the period, reclaiming a 2-1 lead for the Wild. Forwards Christoph Bertschy and Colton Beck each tallied an assist on the power-play goal. Bertschy corralled the puck at the point, feeding a pass to Folin above the right faceoff circle. Folin wristed a shot through traffic in front of the net, beating Binnington over the shoulder for his fourth goal of the season. Wolves defenseman Hubert Labrie tied the game 2-2 at 12:44 of the third period. Defenseman Bryce Gervais and forward Evan Trupp each tallied an assist on the goal. Labrie took a pass from Trupp, walking the puck down the right boards. He attempted a centering pass, bouncing the puck off a defender and into the net for his second goal of the season. Wolves defenseman Andre Benoit scored on the powerplay with 1:32 remaining in regulation, helping Chicago grab a 3-2 lead. Defenseman Peter Harrold picked up the lone assist on the goal.
