PAPILLION, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers defeated the Memphis Redbirds, 11-3, on Friday night to take the finale of the four-game series and salvage a series split with their American Northern Division foe. The victory pushes the Chasers overall record to 46-29 and gives Omaha a 29-11 mark inside the friendly confines of Werner Park.
Jake Odorizzi (5-0) worked 6.0 innings and allowed 10 hits with four strikeouts and three earned runs en-route to his fifth Triple-A win of the season. Blaine Hardy pitched the final three innings in relief of Odorizzi and allowed just two hits with one strikeout to capture his first save of 2012.
Omaha came out of the gates quickly as the good guys were able to score four runs in the first inning. Anthony Seratelli singled to start the first, moved to second on a walk by Johnny Giavotella and scored on an RBI single by Wil Myers. Clint Robinson then knocked in Giavotella with his own RBI single while two more runs came home on an RBI double by Tony Abreu and a sacrifice fly hit by David Lough.
Memphis (27-48) cut the lead in half with their two runs in the second but the Storm Chasers jumped ahead 10-2 after posting six runs in the third. Back-to-back walks by Myers and C. Robinson were followed by an RBI single by Abreu. Lough then singled to push Robinson to third and Abreu to second. Max Ramirez brought Robinson and Abreu home with his two-run single to left field. Derrick Robinson extended the lead to 8-2 with his run-scoring single while Ramirez scurried home on a throwing error by the Redbirds' Brian Broderick. Omaha scored their 10th run of the game and their sixth of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Seratelli that brought D. Robinson in to score.
Memphis scored a lone run in the fourth to close the gap to 10-3 but would do no further damage as the Chasers would add a solo run of their own in the seventh inning thanks to Ramirez' RBI single.
Omaha will now hit the road for a short four-game homestand against the Oklahoma City RedHawks from Saturday to Tuesday. The Storm Chasers will return to Werner Park on Wednesday, June 27 for a seven-game homestand that includes three games against the New Orleans Zephyrs and four contests against the Albuquerque Isotopes.
