Reno Aces News Release
TACOMA, Wash.-Reno battled back from an early deficit Friday night, but the Aces couldn't climb all the way out, dropping a 6-4 decision to the Tacoma Rainiers in the series finale at Cheney Stadium.
Trailing 5-1 through five innings, the Aces pushed across two runs in the sixth, then plated another run in the eighth. In that eighth frame, though, Reno loaded the bases with one out. Ryan Wheeler struck out, then A.J. Pollock flew out deep to right, ending the threat. Tacoma added an insurance run in the home half of the eighth before silencing the Aces in the ninth to escape with a series split.
With the loss, the Aces have dropped consecutive games for the first time this month.
Aces starter Charles Brewer (3-5) took the loss, surrendering five runs-just two earned-on seven hits over 4.2 innings of work. Brewer walked two and struck out five. After his exit, Mike DeMark finished the fifth and Zach Kroenke worked two hitless frames before Jensen Lewis surrendered a solo homer to Vinnie Catricala in the eighth.
Rainiers starter Brian Sweeney (3-1) picked-up the win, scattering three runs on 10 hits over five frames. Scott Patterson ended the proceedings in the ninth to earn the save.
At the plate for Reno, Jake Elmore punched an RBI single in the sixth inning to stretch his hitting streak to a league-best 29-straight games. Cole Gillespie finished with three hits and two runs scored, while Adam Eaton added to his Minor League lead with two more hits.
The Aces now continue on to the second leg of this eight-game road trip with a stop in Salt Lake City. In Saturday's opener, RHP Barry Enright (5-4, 5.31 ERA) gets the nod for Reno. The Bees' starter has yet to be announced. First pitch from Spring Mobile Ballpark is set for 6:05 p.m. PT, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 630 AM in Reno or by visiting RenoAces.com.
The Aces will return home on Wednesday, June 27 to kick-off a seven-game homestand against the Fresno Grizzlies and Las Vegas 51s. Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
