Tucson Padres News Release
Scott Richmond pitched six hitless innings Thursday, as the Las Vegas 51s beat the Tucson Padres, 4-2. Richmond's only hit allowed in 6.1 innings of work was a double by Matt Clark to lead off the seventh inning. Clark also ended a 51s no-hit bid last season, striking an eighth inning single on July 17, 2011 against 51s starter Brad Mills, who had tossed seven hitless innings that day.
Las Vegas scored three times in the third inning on an RBI groundout by Adeiny Hechavarria and a two-run home run by Travis Snider, his third longball in as many nights. The 51s added a fourth run in the top of the ninth when Anthony Gose singled to score Jonathan Diaz.
After Jerry Gil set down the first two Padres in the ninth, Tucson made a comeback attempt, with three hits in a row. Clark singled and Yasmani Grandal doubled to put runners at second and third with two outs. Anthony Contreras hit a two-run single to score Clark and Grandal and bring the tying run to the plate. Gil then got Sawyer Carroll to ground out to second base to end the game. The Padres have lost two of three in the series to Las Vegas and have now lost nine times in eleven tries to Las Vegas in 2011.
Next Game: Friday, 7:05 pm - Las Vegas LHP Bill Murphy (3-2, 4.91) vs. Tucson RHP Matt Palmer (4-4, 5.70). Free Tucson Padres T-Shirt given to the first 2,000 adults, presented by Casa Mazatlan, Azteca Tucson and La Poderosa.
