ROYALS PRE-GAME NOTES
- This evening, the Royals face the Evansville Icemen for the second time in two nights. Last night, the Royals defeated the Icemen 2-1 at Ford Center in Evansville. These two teams will meet four times during the regular season, and all four of the games in the series will be played at Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.
- Tonight's game is the fouth in what is a five game road trip for the Royals, which kicked off with a 3-2 loss to the Wheeling Nailers at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia on Sunday. Wednesday, the Royals bounced back to knock off the Indy Fuel in come-from-behind fashion (6-4) in the team's first trip ever to Indiana Farmers Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Last night, the Royals pushed the team's record to 6-3-1-0 on the road (and 2-1-0-0 on this road trip) with the 2-1 win over the Icemen.
- After tonight's game, the Royals will have a five day holiday break before returning to action against the Elmira Jackals at First Arena in Elmira, New York, on Friday, December 26 (@ 7:05 pm).
- Reading will return to home on Saturday, December 27, 2014 (@ 7:05 pm), when the team will face the Jackals in the second of what will be three consecutive games between the two teams. That night the Royals will honor the team's new affiliation relationship with the Philadelphia Flyers with a special appearance from Flyer legend, Bob 'The Hound' Kelly. The Royals will also give away the Jack Gulati bobblehead (first 1500 fifteen years of age and older) as we celebrate 'Are You Happy?' Night.
- Friday's win in Evansville pushed the Royals' record to the team's high-water mark of five games over .500 for the first time this season.
- Last night's game marked the fourth time in the last five games that the Royals have played in a one-goal decision. Reading has won three of those one-goal games in this sequence. Overall, the Royals are 8-4- 1-1 in games decided by one goal.
- The Royals scored the first goal in last night's contest, running the team's record to 9-3-0-1 when scoring the game's first goal.
- Defenseman Adam Comrie scored his seventh goal of the season 6:01 into the first period of Friday's win to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. Comrie's seven goals is tied for the league lead amongst d-men in the ECHL.
- David Marshall scored his ninth goal of the season 12:58 into the second period on Friday to push the Royals' lead to 2-0. Marshall and Adam Hughesman are tied for the team lead with nine goals.
Marshall's goal last night proved to be his team leading fifth game winning goal of the year, which is also tied for the league lead.
- Pat Mullane stretched his assist streak to three straight games (0g-5a) in Friday's game. Mullane has sixteen points (4g-12a) in his last fourteen games.
- Olivier Labelle's assist on David Marshall's GWG was Labelle's 147th point (78g-69a) as a Royal (third most in team history) in his 181st career game with the team.
- Sean Wiles extended his personal point streak to three games (2g-2a) when he picked up the primary assist on the game winner by Marshall tonight.
- Goaltender Martin Ouellette stretched his personal win streak to a team season-long five straight with his twenty-seven save win on Friday. Ouellette is 8-1-1-1 in his last eleven games with Reading. Friday's game marked the fifth time this season that Ouellette has held the opposition to one goal or less.
Ouellette was recalled earlier today to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the AHL.
- Reading's power play was held off the board for the fourth straight game (0-3) on Friday. It marked the second consecutive game for the Royals to be awarded a five-minute major power play on which they did not score. Reading's PP has been blanked in six of the last seven games and in eight of the last ten.
During that ten game span, the power play has gone 3 for 36 (8.3%).
- The Royals' penalty killers blanked Evansville's power play on four chances with the man advantage on Friday. That marked the second consecutive game (and third time in four games) that Reading's PK has held the opposition's power play off the board. This season, the Royals killers have blanked the opponent in fifteen of the twenty-five games that the team has played. The team is 10-3-1-1 in those games.
