Last Time Out

The Stockton Thunder started the game well but minutes in the team was caught with six skaters on the ice, putting Ryan Hayes in the box. The Steelheads made the Thunder pay as Steven Quailer's shot was followed up by Ludwig Karlson and past Philippe Trudeau.

The next shift Wade MacLeod took a hooking penalty but instead of the Thunder scoring on their power play, it'd be another Idaho shorthanded goal when Quailer fed in the zone for Jason Bast. It was Idaho's fourth shorty against Stockton this season.

The Thunder however would get a special teams goal as Keith Seabrook found Sebastian Collberg who went in on Olivier Roy all alone and ended up scoring his fourth of the season on the power play.

Just 5:09 later David de Kastrozza caught a Seabrook pass out of midair and fed Colton Beck who completed the two-on-none breakaway with Gaelan Patterson.

Mike Pereira scored on a wacky goal that was tipped at least twice but a late Thunder surge was held off by the Idaho Steelheads and the Thunder fell 2-3 and dropped their fourth-straight game.

Tonight

The Thunder played well when it came to even strength play, and ended last night's game ahead by one in the shot department, however the difference seems to be the special teams. The Stockton Thunder's penalty kill hasn't been up to par, ranking near the bottom of the league with a 78.6% kill rate, above only Elmira and Gwinnett.

The Thunder power play unit has been good when it comes to converting their chances though s they are the fourth best unit in the league, scoring on 22.2% of their chances and ranking behind only Toledo, Florida and Indy. However the Thunder have allowed 6 shorthanded goals against including four to the Idaho Steelheads (Jesse Root, Jason Bast, David de Kastrozza (x2))

Who to Watch

Mike Pereira is one of the hottest players on the Thunder right now with goals in three of his last four games. Last night's tally was very impressive as Adam Phillips' point shot was tipped by Lukas Sutter and from the overhead angle you can see Pereira bat it past Olivier Roy to give the Thunder a chance at tying the game.

It was tough to tell if it was heading in without Pereira's extra tap but an impressive play again by the winger who has points in three of five games since missing 14 games due to a lower body injury and spending time on the IR.

I'm Bringing Maxy Back

While one dynamic forward leaves the team one is set to come back tonight as Tyler Maxwell has been activated off the 21-day IR.

Maxwell picked up a lower body injury against Bako on 11-26 when Connor Jones ran him and has missed the last 9 games. The SoCal native brings a point streak into the game tonight having picked up 4 goals and 4 assists in his previous four games. At the time of going on the shelf Maxwell was the leading goal scorer but has since been tied by Jack MacLellan, Tyler Shattock and Peter Sivak and has been eclipsed by Ryan Hayes who leads the team with 8 goals.

All-Time Watch

We're monitoring the situation between Garet Hunt, Ryan Constant and Mike Lalonde as Lalonde's all-time lead in points could be in danger of falling to one of the Thunder's star players soon.

Lalonde's 156 career points is in jeopardy as Constant pulled ahead with 151 points with the Thunder while Hunt is right behind them both with 145.

That means Constant is just 5 points back of tying the record while Hunt is 11 points back of tying the record. Both players have missed time due to injuries this season as Hunt missed 11 games while Constant was placed on Injured Reserve on December 14.

Hunt is the only one close to Lalonde's all-time record of 72 goals with his 54 markers, putting the Thunder captain 18 shy of tying the record.

Don't Talk to Him While he Listens to the Song

A famous and recognizable face will be in attendance tonight as Steve Carlson, better known as Steve Hanson from the greatest hockey movie of all-time, Slap Shot, will be watching the game tonight with his wife. Carlson, who is a 14-year pro, will make an appearance on tonight's broadcast to chat with Brandon Kisker about hockey and Slap Shot. If you miss the interview, we'll be sure to upload it to Spreaker.com so everyone can check it out!

Whatever you do though...don't talk to him while he's trying to listen to the anthem!

Santa on the Fan Deck

Mr. and Mrs. Claus made an early trip to Stockton ahead of his big sleigh ride just five days away, to say hi to all of the kids in attendance tonight. They'll be up on the Fan Deck with one of Santa's helpers greeting everyone, taking photos with our littlest fans, and passing out chocolates.

Streaks on the Line tonight

Sebastian Collberg is on a five-game point streak (4G, 3A).

Tyler Maxwell is on a four-game point streak (4G, 4A).

Interesting Note

In games that Tyler Maxwell scores in the Thunder are 3-3-0. Maxwell has had one two-goal game (a win over Bakersfield) and did score before he left early due to injury on November 26 against those same Condors.
