Kansas City Mavericks News Release
Independence, MO - Despite a physical showing on Saturday night, the Missouri Mavericks were unable to put the puck to the back of the net, and were shutout 3-0 by the visiting Rapid City Rush at Independence Events Center.
The Mavs outshot the Rush 33-17, but could not find a way past Rapid City net minder Danny Battochio to get on the scoreboard through 60 minutes of play.
Rush defenseman Sean Erickson opened the scoreboard at 13:21 of the first period, assisted by J.M. Rizk and Daniel Tetrault. Jesse Schultz doubled Rapid City's lead at 4:45 of the second frame, assisted again by J.M. Rizk.
The Mavs struggled on the power play all evening, going 0-5 on the man-advantage, and were dealt a final blow at 12:56 of the third period when Winston Day Chief netted a short-handed goal for a 3-0 Rush game. J.M. Rizk and Daniel Tetrault were credited with the assists.
Missouri plays their next game at home on Monday, December 22nd against the Quad City Mallards at 7:05pm (CST) before hitting the road for a weekend road trip to Rapid City on December 26th and December 27th.
