The Chinooks Win Big in Wausau

The Lakeshore offense came alive tonight as the Chinooks (13-22) took a 14-1 road victory against the Wausau Woodchucks (15-20). Lakeshore's offense produced seventeen hits tonight compared to Wausau's four. On the mound for the Chinooks, tonight was Mitch Alba, who also got the win, improving to 3-4 on the year.
Lakeshore started the scoring party in the top of the second inning with four of their fourteen total runs. Sam Hojnar smacked a leadoff home run for the game's first run, starting the hot-hitting night. Next, Will Johannes and Carson Hansen produced back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second. Jack Meyer knocked in Johannes with an RBI single, and later, a sac fly by Jacob Nelson scored Hansen. Jack Meyer scored the last run of the inning off a Drew Towsend single, and the Chinooks had a 4-0 lead over the Woodchucks.
Tonight, Alba went five full innings, only allowing three hits, one earned run, and five K's with six walks. Woodchuck's only run of the night came in the fifth inning, which would be Alba's final inning. Although, by that point, the Chinooks led by a score of 7-1.
The fourth inning saw Lakeshore add a run, with Jimmy Juergensen being the one to step on home plate. Juergensen arrived on base with a walk and was moved around to second and third off a sac bunt and a passed ball. Towsend knocked in his second RBI of the night, sending Juergensen home with an RBI single.
Lakeshore kept attacking the Woodchucks, tacking on six more runs between the fifth and sixth inning. Jack Meyer smacked a 2-run home run for the Chinook's second homer of the night in the sixth. Before that, Adam Cootway and Jack Counsell hit singles to put runners on first and second. Eventually, the two made their way home via a fielder's choice.
After the sixth inning, the Chinooks were up 11-1 and had put up 15 hits. Five total runs came off Woodchucks starter Chandler Freeman and another six runs came off Richie Lacien. In four innings of work, Freeman had allowed four earned runs with two walks, no K's, and seven hits allowed.
Lakeshore scored a total of fourteen runs tonight, with the last three coming in the eighth inning. It was an impressive victory, no doubt, as the Chinooks season nears its end. Lakeshore faces the Fond Du Lac Dock Spiders tomorrow, with first pitch set for 6:35 pm CST.
