Eau Claire Express News Release
Eau Claire, WI - Eau Claire won game 2 of their short series vs. the visiting La Crosse Loggers. The final score of this matchup came to 9-5 in favor of the Express.
Eau Claire starter Trey Felker (Montevallo) looked poised through five innings, as he gave up 2 earned runs on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts. The only speedbump in his outing was a 3-run third inning, where one run came across on a passed ball, and two more came on RBI singles. Tanner Sagouspe came in in the top of the sixth and finished out the game for the Express. His outing was equally impressive, throwing for 4 innings, giving up 2 runs on 2 hits, while striking out 7 batters.
Eau Claire, clad in their throwback Bear's uniforms looked sharp at the plate on the night, and quickly got to work. Runs came early and often with 5 being added to the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning. These came across off the bats of Bronson Rivera (Hawaii), Brigs Richartz (St. Thomas), and Reed Latimer (UAB). Rivera and Richartz each notched two RBI on their second-inning doubles, and Latimer's came on a single.
The Loggers made a push in the top of the third inning to bring the score within 2 runs, but that was as close as it would get for La Crosse.
Eau Claire kept the scoring going, as they added more runs in the third and fourth innings. Two runs came across in the bottom of the fourth when Marcus Cline (Tulane) hammered his second double of the day to the leftfield wall. His work at the plate and in the field earned him "Player of the Game" honors, as his contributions came at critical points of the ballgame.
The scoring cooled down for the Trains for a couple of innings, until Ryan Nagelbach's Sac Fly brought in 1 in the bottom of the seventh.
Nine runs was all it would take for the Trains to get the win on the evening. With this win, the Express move to 36-29 on the season. They will look to keep the wins coming in their next matchup tomorrow night. Eau Claire will again play host, this time with the Willmar Stingers visiting. First Pitch will come at 7:05 pm CT, and the theme for the game will be Barbie Night. Be sure to swing out to Carson Park to take in the Baseball Barbie Dream House.
