Eau Claire Express News Release

Eau Claire, Wis. - The Eau Claire Express fell 4-1 in game two against the La Crosse Loggers due to their inability to generate offense on Monday night.

Due to the Trains' previous 6-3 victory over the Loggers on Sunday, followed up by Monday night's performance, the two teams will have a winner-takes-all game in Carson Park Tuesday night, deciding who moves on in the playoffs and whose retired for the summer.

The Trains have demonstrated a strong tendency for comebacks, but their most recent performance was not one of those instances. In Monday night's game, the Express only managed to secure one run in the fourth inning.

Due to a struggling performance from La Crosse pitcher Tommy Bridges, the bottom of the fourth inning started with him walking Anthony Martinez. Following this, Jake Busson hit a single, and Jaxon Schumacher was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. After Sawyer Stein struck out for the first out, Adam Salazar stepped up to bat. He was walked on four balls, which allowed Martinez to score, marking their first and only earned run of the night.

The Loggers secured their first run in the second inning as Nicholas Mazzotta crossed home on a Maxwell Kalk groundout. Their second run of the night was following a Logan De Groot single to right field, bringing home Landon Lozier in the bottom of the third.

Although still having a lot of baseball left to play in the game, the Loggers sealed their lead in the top of the fourth, earning two runs after Savion Flowers made it home on Lozier's single to center field. Followed by Mana Lau Kong running home on a wild pitch thrown to Jake Redding.

The 4-1 loss still had bright spots, such as Busson, who went two-for-four, and Martinez, who went one-for-three, and secured the only run of the night.

Eau Claire ended the night securing one run of five hits and three errors, compared to the Loggers' four runs on seven hits.

The Trains will look to regain their momentum as they once again play in Carson Park for game three of the playoffs against the La Crosse Loggers at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday.
