New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH - Eric Thames went 4-for-4 with two RBIs, and Darin Mastroianni extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a three-hit night, but the New Britain Rock Cats simultaneously snapped a 10-game losing streak while halting the New Hampshire Fisher Cats' eight-game winning streak, 9-3, on Wednesday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
New Hampshire (18-8) erased a 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the first inning against David Bromberg when Adam Calderone (2-for-5, 3B, BB, R) tripled and scored on Thames' double to deep left. Thames came in with an unearned run on a throwing error by Rock Cats first baseman Chris Parmelee, giving the Fisher Cats a 2-1 lead.
New Britain (5-20) evened the score 2-2 in the top of the second on Ben Revere's RBI single off Kyle Drabek, scoring Joe Benson (single).
Thames made it 3-2 with a two-out, second-inning RBI single to score Jonathan Diaz (3-for-5, 2B, R), who led off with a single and moved to third on Calderone's single.
The Rock Cats batted around and plated four unearned runs in the top of the sixth to go ahead for good. Juan Portes (0-for-5, R) reached on an error by Mastroianni and scored the tying run when Alexander Soto (2-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R) hit a run-scoring single. Later in the frame, Yancarlos Ortiz (3-for-3, 2 BB, RBI) beat out a bases-loaded infield single, scoring Parmelee (2-for-5, 2 2B, 2 R) for a 4-3 lead. Drabek's night ended when Revere (2-for-6, 3 RBI, R, SB) laced a two-run single, increasing New Britain's advantage to 6-3.
Drabek (4-2) saw his personal three-game winning streak snapped even though five of the six runs he allowed were unearned in 5.2 innings of work. The right-hander fanned seven, yielded eight hits, walked two and hit batter.
Joe Testa (1-3) scattered three hits over two shutout innings of relief to notch his first win. The southpaw struck out three.
Spencer Steedley, Chris Province and Santos Arias each added one scoreless frame of relief, as the Fisher Cats set a dubious club record by leaving 17 runners on base.
Rene Tosoni (2-for-4, HR, BB, 2 RBI) had a first-inning RBI single off Drabek, giving the Rock Cats a 1-0 lead; he added a leadoff home run, his second, off Bubbie Buzachero in the seventh, pushing New Britain's lead to 7-3.
New Britain added two runs off Dumas Garcia in the ninth on an RBI double by Soto, who later scored on a wild pitch.
The Fisher Cats wrap up their four-game series with the Rock Cats on Thursday night at 6:35pm when right-hander Randy Boone (1-2, 2.92) takes the mound against New Britain righty Carlos Gutierrez (0-1, 5.40). Radio coverage begins with Fisher Cats Pre-Game at 6:15pm with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
The Fisher Cats close out the seven-game homestand with a post-game Atlas Fireworks Show on Thursday night. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
