Altoona Curve News Release
Richmond, VA - Curve veteran catcher Hector Gimenez enjoyed a career night tying personal bests going 4-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs in Altoona's second straight win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels (AA - San Francisco) on Wednesday night at The Diamond.
Gimenez, a switch-hitter, blasted a solo homer while batting right-handed in the top of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie and then from the left side of the plate went deep with a man aboard in the top of the ninth inning to provide the Curve with a three-run cushion.
Alex Presley finished the night 1-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a single in the ninth inning. Presley surpassed Adam Hyzdu (1999) and Nate McLouth (2004) and now stands alone in second place in the record books for longest hitting streak in Curve history. Next up is Kevin Sefcik's franchise-best 22-game streak which was accomplished in 2002.
On the mound, Pirates' righty Ross Ohlendorf made a Major League rehab assignment and tossed 4.0 plus innings of scoreless relief, scattering three hits, walking one and striking out six. Ohlendorf threw 59 pitches - with 41 of those being strikes. He was relieved by Jared Hughes who came on in the "piggy back" role. Hughes tossed 4.1 innings allowing just two runs on six hits to earn his league-best fifth win of the season.
Daniel Moskos tossed the final two outs of the ninth inning to secure his sixth save of the season, which is third-best in the Eastern League.
Altoona (18-7) will look to grab another series victory on Thursday morning at 10:35 a.m. in the final game of the four-game series. RHP Derek Hankins (2-0, 1.52) will toe the rubber for the Curve while LHP Clayton Tanner (2-2, 2.16) goes for Richmond (15-11). Air time is 10:05 a.m. on flagship station ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Altoona Curve Radio Network.
