Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (46-25-3-4, 99 Points) defeated the San Antonio Rampage (34-31-5-7, 80 points) 3-1 on Tuesday night at Cedar Park Center. Texas winger Francis Wathier scored a goal and added an assist as the Stars improved to 24-12-1-2 at home this year. Defenseman Matt Stephenson tallied two assists in Texas' seventh win against the Rampage in the State Farm Lone Star Face-off. Stars goalie Richard Bachman (4-3-0) stopped 25 of 26 Rampage shots after replacing Brent Krahn at the start of the second period. Texas will host the Rockford IceHogs on Friday, April 9th at 7:30 PM.
The Stars took a 1-0 lead, scoring the lone goal of the first period at 4:30. Winger Sergei Korostin received a pass from Travis Morin in front of the net and fired a shot past Rampage goalie Josh Tordjman on the gloveside. Francis Wathier also added an assist on Korostin's 13th goal of the year.
In the second period, Texas goalie Brent Krahn (17-4-0) was replaced by goalie Richard Bachman after stopping all 17 San Antonio shots in the first period. The Rampage tied the game 1-1 after left wing Jeff Hoggan snapped a shot from the right-wing circle over Bachman's shoulder. Mikkel Boedker tallied an assist on Hoggan's 12th goal of the season, which came at 3:32 of the middle period.
The Stars jumped ahead 2-1 at 10:55 of the third period after winger Colton Sceviour tipped in a shot past Tordjman from the crease. Defenseman Matt Stephenson assisted Sceviour's ninth goal this year. Wathier extended Texas' lead to 3-1 at 14:07 when he fired a shot from the left-wing circle, beating Tordjman on the stickside. Stephenson added his second assist of the night on Wathier's 19th goal this season.
Prior to the game, the Dallas Stars reassigned defenseman Maxime Fortunus to Texas. Also, the Texas Stars announced that forward Michael Neal has been recalled from the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL, while forward Ned Lukacevic has been released from a PTO. Neal joins the Stars after playing in 57 games for Idaho, scoring five times and setting up ten others for 15 points. Neal was scoreless in four games this season with Texas.
Texas plays its last regular season home game against the Rockford IceHogs on Friday, April 9th at 7:30 PM. On Friday, the Cedar Park Center will provide $2.00 domestic drafts and $1.00 hot dogs for Fan Appreciation Night. The Stars conclude the regular season in Houston on Saturday, April 10th at 7:35 PM.
