April 6, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Houston Aeros News Release
HOUSTON - Forwards Matt Keith and Pete MacArthur set up C Mark Cullen for a pair of markers as the Rockford IceHogs (43-29-3-3) defeated the Houston Aeros (32-33-7-5) 3-1 in front of 3,868 at Toyota Center Tuesday night. RW J-M Daoust scored the lone goal for Houston and G Darcy Kuemper (2-1-0) took his first career loss stopping 14 of 17 shots faced. G Cory Crawford (23-16-2) made 22 saves to earn the victory.
Cullen started the scoring 2:55 into the game beating Kuemper five-hole off helpers from forwards Keith and MacArthur. The Aeros found themselves on the power play at the 12:54 mark when C Brandon Bollig was called for Slashing, but it was the IceHogs that capitalized netting goal number two. C Bracken Kearns threw the puck on net that rebounded to the stick of RW Jack Skille who stuffed it under Kuemper's left pad just before barreling over the Houston goaltender.
The Aeros cut the lead in half late in the middle frame. RW Duncan Milroy found Daoust at the top of the right faceoff circle where he dashed toward the crease and beat Crawford off the back of his left leg for his 21st of the season at 19:22. The goal tied RW Jon DiSalvatore for the club-lead.
Cullen extended the Rockford lead to 3-1 with a wrister from the top of the right faceoff circle at 9:14 of the third period, again from Keith and MacArthur.
The Aeros outshot Rockford 23-17 on the night while each club went 0-for-3 on the power play. Houston finished the season series against the Hogs with a 2-3-2-1 mark dropping each of their last four contests.
The Aeros close out the 2009-10 season with three Lone Star showdowns starting Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. tilt at the AT&T Center against the Rampage. The game will air live on FS Houston as the last of six televised State Farm Lone Star Faceoff match-ups this season.
