CEDAR PARK, Texas (April 6, 2010) - In their final road game of the 2009-10 campaign, the Rampage fired 45 shots on goal against their I-35 rival Texas Stars in a 3-1 loss to the Stars at Cedar Park Center Tuesday night.
The Stars took an early lead just 4:30 into regulation with a goal by Stars right wing Sergei Korostin. Working the puck from behind the Rampage net, Texas left wing Francis Wathier passed the puck off to Travis Morin who was waiting at the left corner of the crease in which the puck deflected off of his stick across the top of the crease to Korostin who was stationed at the right corner and slid the puck under Rampage netminder Josh Tordjman's left leg pad to give the Stars a 1-0 advantage. Despite outshooting the Stars 17-7, San Antonio remained scoreless after the first frame.
To start the second stanza, Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan opted to pull former Rampage goaltender Brent Krahn in favor of Richard Bachman for his seventh appearance of the season. Bachman faced a Rampage season-high 21 shots on goal during the second while the Stars managed eight shots against Tordjman.
San Antonio captain Jeff Hoggan recorded his 12th goal of the season to even the score at 1-1 just 3:23 seconds into the second period. Rampaging into the Stars zone, Mikkel Boedker passed the puck up the ice to Hoggan who skated into the right wing circle and fired a shot from the faceoff dot that rang the right goal post and deflected into the net. Rampage defenseman Shaun Heshka picked up his 25th assist on San Antonio's 225th goal of the season.
The Stars regained the lead with 9:05 remaining in regulation when Colton Sceviour redirected the puck from the doorstep behind Tordjman into the net. Mathieu Tousignant and Aaron Gagnon.
Texas extended their lead to 3-1 with Wathier's 19th goal of the season on a spin around shot from the left faceoff circle that went high inside the right post.
San Antonio netminder Josh Tordjman stopped 21 of 24 Stars shots in the loss, while Krahn and Bachman combined for 44 saves on 45 Rampage shots for the victory
The Rampage were 0-for-7 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
