CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - Kai-Wei Teng registered a career-high seven scoreless innings and won a 3-0 Cedar Rapids Kernels shutout Saturday against the Clinton LumberKings in front of 3,725 fans at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Teng and Nate Hadley combined for the three-hit shutout to open this three-game series.

A native of Taichung, Taiwan, Teng (4-0) tossed the longest shutout start of his career for the Kernels (20-14, 59-45). He took a no-hitter into the fourth inning and posted a game-high seven strikeouts over seven scoreless innings. Cedar Rapids is also 8-1 in games that Teng has pitched in during the 2019 season.

Hadley kept Clinton (21-13, 54-49) scoreless in the final two frames and earned his first Midwest League save. He recorded a 1-2-3 eighth inning and worked around a two-out walk in the ninth to finish the contest.

The Kernels claimed a 1-0 lead within the third inning. Spencer Steer drew a one-out walk and advanced to second base via wild pitch. Gilberto Celestino bounced the next pitch into center field for an RBI single that drove in Steer.

Wander Javier walked and scored insurance runs during the sixth and eighth innings. Javier came home on Trevor Casanova's sixth-inning double and on Tyler Webb's eighth-inning single.

Josh Roberson (1-1) was tagged with his first LumberKings loss in Saturday's series opener. Roberson yielded just one run over five innings pitched. He also notched a team-high five strikeouts.

Cedar Rapids and Clinton will continue their three-game series Sunday at 2:05 p.m., and Kernels right-hander Austin Schulfer (6-4, 3.76) is scheduled to square off with LumberKings right-hander Remey Reed (1-0, 0.82). Chris Kleinhans-Schulz will call the contest on 1450 KMRY AM and 93.1 KMRY FM and also online at www.kmryradio.com, www.kernels.com, and MiLB.TV.

Pikachu will be at the ballpark Sunday as part of Pokémon Day, and fans have the opportunity to sign up for a chance to win a Nintendo Switch and other prizes. On Sundays when the Kernels have a home game, the Kernels Ticket Office will open at 11:00 a.m.
