Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, Illinois - In a game with six lead changes, the Kane County Cougars (59-44, 24-10) walked off to win their sixth game in a row, 6-5, over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (50-53, 19-15) on Saturday night at Northwestern Medicine Field in front of 8,135 fans. Zack Shannon's two-run single in the ninth ended the game.
Wisconsin grabbed the first lead on a first inning Thomas Dillard RBI double. Blaze Alexander cracked a two-run go-ahead homer to give the Cougars their first lead. In the top of the third, David Fry's RBI double tied the game. Dillard lifted a sacrifice fly to center to give the Rattlers a 3-2 edge. Zac Almond retaliated with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third to even the score once again.
Dillard continued his big night with a sixth inning go-ahead solo homer to make it 4-3 Timber Rattlers. Dominic Fletcher responded with a game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the inning. David Fry gave Wisconsin a 5-4 advantage with a lead-off homer in the eighth.
In the bottom of the ninth, Blaze Alexander led off with a bloop double to right-center that dropped in between three Wisconsin defenders. Joey Rose placed runners at first and third with no one out. Wisconsin made a change on the mound, bringing in Tyler Gillies to face Zack Shannon. Shannon fought off a two-strike pitch before belting a single down the left field line for the walk-off winner.
Luis Contreras (0-1) was responsible for both the game-tying and game-winning runs in the ninth. He took the loss. Chester Pimentel (4-5) earned the win with 3.2 innings of one-run relief with six strikeouts and no walks.
The Cougars look to win the series against Wisconsin Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 first pitch. Follow the action live on AM 1280 WBIG or online at kccougars.com.
