Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BURLINGTON, IA - The Snappers held out and secured a Snappers victory at the Bees' home late Friday night. A combination of both great pitching and an offensive burst would propel the Snappers to another series victory.
Venezuelan born Jhenderson Hurtado would start the night for the Snappers on the bump after recently being called up from short-season Vermont on Tuesday. Hurtado made is first start of the season with the Snappers, which is his first start since September 2 last year.
Hurtado, who was thrown into the Snappers' multi-piggyback rotation, provided a very serviceable outing for Beloit throwing 4 innings and only allowing 1 run to cross in his final inning of work. Hurtado would strike out 6 batters and allow 3 walks and hits apiece.
The Snappers offence would not stay quiet for long, though. After the Bees put up a run in the bottom of the 4th, the Snappers would answer back with 4 runs of their own in the 5th frame. All 4 runs would come on RBI singles from Max Schuemann, Devin Foyle, and Anthony Churlin, who have been major parts of Snappers' lineup in the middle of July.
Snappers' slinger Chase Cohen would come on to face the Bees for the third time this year in the 5th inning and continue his predecessors success with 4 strong innings of his own. Cohen did find himself in trouble in the bottom half of the 7th though after he allowed two runners to reach via the walk with 1 out. A single, error, and walk later would bring the Bees within a run before Cohen would defuse the swarm of Bees' runners. Cohen would secure his 5th win of the year with his outing, thanks in part to the Snappers' insurance from all the way back in the 5th inning.
Relief pitcher Charlie Cerny would finish the night for the Snappers by working through the heart of the Bees' order to squash the Bees' bats and end the game. Cerny went 1-2-3 in the ninth striking out both of his first two batters then got the final batter to fly out on the first. Cerny recorded his 5th save on his 6th opportunity the season which leads the current Snappers' bullpen.
The Snappers return to Beloit tomorrow to begin an 8 games in 7 days home stand where they face the Quad Cities River Bandits and the Cedar Rapids Kernels. The Snappers will have Aiden McIntyre on the mound tomorrow versus Quad Cities with first pitch at 6:30 PM CST in Beloit. McIntyre and the rest of the Snappers will be wearing their "PAW Patrol" jerseys tomorrow at Pohlman Field.
The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and have been the Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. For more ticket information, contact the Snappers office at (608) 362-2272 or visit our website, www.snappersbaseball.com.
