Providence Bruins News Release

The Providence Bruins announced today that center Ted Donato has been reassigned to the club by the Boston Bruins. The 34-year-old native of Boston had one assist in seven games with the Bruins this season. He signed as a free agent with the Bruins, the team that originally selected him with the 98th pick in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft, on July 22. Donato is expected to join the team for its game in Worcester on Saturday night.

Donato played four seasons at Harvard University from 1987-91, capturing the 1989 NCAA national championship. He went on to play for the U.S. National Team in 1991-92 before playing on the 1992 U.S. Olympic Team, where his teammates included goaltender and current P-Bruins head coach Scott Gordon. At the conclusion of the Olympics, he joined the Boston Bruins, playing in the last 10 games of the regular season, as well as 15 playoff contests.

Donato surpassed the 20-goal plateau in three different seasons for Boston, and led the team with a career-high 25 goals in 1996-97. He was traded by Boston to the New York Islanders in exchange for Ken Belanger on November 7, 1998. Overall, he has tallied 113-143-256 totals and 281 PIM in 472 games with Boston. Donato has 144-193-337 totals and 380 PIM in 740 career NHL games with Boston, the Islanders, Ottawa, Anaheim, Dallas, Los Angeles, St. Louis and the New York Rangers.

While Donato played in 49 games with the Rangers in 2002-03, he also notched 8-12-20 totals in 18 games with their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. He had a stellar AHL season in 2001-02, when he began the year with the Manchester Monarchs. He tallied 18-25-43 totals in 36 games with the Monarchs and was selected to play for the PlanetUSA All-Star Team in the 2002 AHL All-Star Classic. Donato could not play after signing an NHL contract with the Islanders a month before the Classic.

The Bruins hit the road for their next three games, beginning on tonight at 7:05 p.m., when they take on the Hartford Wolf Pack. They visit the Worcester IceCats on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. and the Springfield Falcons on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. All the action will be broadcast live on WDDZ AM-550.

The Bruins return home to host the Lowell Lock Monsters on Friday, November 7 and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday, November 8. Both games get underway at 7:05 p.m.
