Worcester IceCats News Release


St. Louis, MO – Senior Vice President and General Manager Larry Pleau announced today that the club has recalled forward Johnny Pohl from the Blues American Hockey League affiliate, the Worcester IceCats.

Pohl, 24, is in his second stint with the club this season and is looking to make his NHL debut. He has skated in seven games with Worcester this season, recording four points (three goals, one assist), tying him for fifth on the team. Pohl played in six preseason games with St. Louis, registering three assists.

The 6-1, 194-pound forward finished fourth overall in the AHL in scoring last season with 58 points (26 goals, 32 assists), breaking Worcester's franchise mark for rookie points in a season. He finished fourth in the AHL with 26 goals, while tying Jeff Panzer's 2001-02 franchise rookie goal scoring record and was named IceCats 2002-03 Rookie of the Year. The Rochester, Minnesota native was named as a starter for the PlanetUSA All-Star Game. He played in six games for the United States at the World Championships in Finland, leading the team with seven points (three goals, four assists). Pohl was originally St. Louis' ninth round selection, 255th overall, in the 1998 Entry Draft.

The IceCats host the Providence Bruins Saturday night and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Sunday at Worcester's Centrum Centre. Saturday's game time is 7:05 PM while Sunday's will have a 4:05 PM faceoff.
