Portland Pirates News Release
PORTLAND, ME - The Portland Pirates and the Salvation Army are teaming up for the first ever "Kettle Kickoff with the Portland Pirates" on Saturday, November 15th when the Pirates host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Prior to face-off, fans will enjoy a Salvation Army Band and donate at designated "Celebrity Kettles" manned by local media personalities. "Army Pucks" will be available for a special intermission event at which spectators will try to toss the puck into a giant kettle on the ice. The closest to the kettle will win Pirates merchandise and a ticket package.
"We are very pleased to once again lend our support to the important work of the Salvation Army, especially as the holiday season approaches," said Brian Petrovek, Pirates' CEO. "The Pirates have had a long partnership with the Salvation Army over the years, and we think we've further energized that relationship with this year's event."
Those attending will also leave with a "Catch The Change" bag that must be returned to the Pirates game on December 20th. The fan who collects the most change for Salvation Army programs will win a "Game Getaway" package, which includes two tickets to a future game, a night's hotel accommodations and breakfast the following morning.
"We are excited to be associated with the top ticket in town," said Portland Corps Officer Major James Guest. "We know it will be a night of rewarding family fun."
The "Kettle Kickoff With the Portland Pirates" marks the beginning of The Salvation Army's most visible fundraising effort. The Portland Corps aims to raise more than $150,000 for community and youth programs which benefit hundred of area residents.
To help make the November 15th event a success, The Salvation Army is also selling tickets for $8 apiece, with a portion of the proceeds supporting local programs. To purchase tickets or for more information, contact Major Jim Guest at 774 6304, ext. 260.
The Pirates return to action on Saturday night when they host the Norfolk Admirals at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,000 fans to the game will receive a free travel mug from Dunkin' Donuts. Tickets for this and all Pirates' home games are on sale at the Cumberland County Civic Center box office and all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets may be ordered by phone at (207) 775-3458, (207) 775-3331 or on-line at Ticketmaster.com.
