Mowers powers Griffins past Ducks

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Mark Mowers scored two goals to lift the Grand Rapids Griffins to a 3-2 victory over the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks Friday at Cincinnati Gardens.

Mowers opened the scoring with an unassisted shorthanded goal 7:04 into the game and broke a 2-2 tie with a power-play strike at the 6:29 mark of the third.

Joey MacDonald stopped 32 shots in the win for Grand Rapids, which extended its unbeaten streak to three games (2-0-1-0).

Pierre Parenteau and Michael Holmqvist scored for the Ducks, who snapped a three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1-0) and lost for the first time this season at home (2-1-1-0).

Ilya Bryzgalov made 16 saves in the loss, evening his record at 3-3-0.

The Ducks play Syracuse at 7:35 p.m. tonight at Cincinnati Gardens.
