Tacoma Defeated by Salt Lake in Series Finale, Headed Home for Six-Game Set against Round Rock

SALT LAKE CITY, UT - Cal Raleigh led Tacoma's offensive output on Tuesday, stroking a pair of doubles and driving in an early run, but the Rainiers were handed their fourth loss in six days by the Salt Lake Bees, 9-3. The Tacoma catcher finished 2-for-4 with his fifth and sixth two-baggers of the season, accounting for a pair of Tacoma's nine hits in the effort.

Trailing 3-0 after two run-scoring Salt Lake (5-7) doubles in the first inning, the Rainiers (5-7) got their first score when third baseman Jantzen Witte rolled into a double play, allowing first baseman Sam Travis to score. Salt Lake added a couple tallies in the bottom of the 2nd inning to extend their lead, 5-1.

An inning later, Raleigh poked his second double of the night into right-center field to plate left fielder Eric Filia. Raleigh, the Seattle Mariners No. 8 prospect (MLB Pipeline), improved his season line to .286 (12-for-42) with 7 RBI and 6 doubles.

In the 4th inning, Tacoma scored for the third straight frame on an RBI single from second baseman Joseph Rosa, giving Travis his second run of the contest. The RBI was Rosa's first in Triple-A. The New York native played four games with Tacoma in 2017 but had not played above High-A again until this season.

Right fielder Dillon Thomas joined Filia (2-for-4, R) and Raleigh with a 2-hit game. The 28-year-old has five multi-hit games since May 8 and is batting .364 (12-for-33) with 8 RBI and 7 runs over his last 10 games.

Right-hander Reeves Martin (0-2) made an abbreviated start for Tacoma, surrendering 3 earned runs in the 1st inning. Righty Fred Villarreal made his Rainiers debut and gave up 3 runs over the next 2 2/3 innings but recorded his first Triple-A strikeout.

Southpaw Aaron Fletcher and right-hander Justin Grimm each pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in the defeat, while righty Yohan Ramirez was tagged for 3 runs in 1 2/3 frames.

Tacoma will return home Thursday for the start of a six-game series (May 20-25) against the Round Rock Express, Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. First pitch of Thursday's series opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. PT at Cheney Stadium.
