Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
(ROUND ROCK, Texas) - Right-hander Jake Odorizzi began his Major League rehab assignment on Tuesday as the Sugar Land Skeeters were defeated 8-5 by the Round Rock Express.
A day after left-hander Framber Valdez began a rehab assignment, Odorizzi tossed three innings, allowing four runs on five hits with four strikeouts. He totaled 57 pitches in his first appearance since April 24 with the Houston Astros.
Skeeters outfielder Bryan De La Cruz led off the game with an opposite field home run, his first of the season. He followed that with another opposite-field solo home run in his next at-bat at Dell Diamond.
CJ Hinojosa tacked on a two-run double in the sixth followed by an RBI single from Jake Meyers. Hinojosa's eighth double of the season added onto his Triple A West lead. Meyers extended his hitting streak to 10 games, which is the second-longest active hitting streak in Triple A West.
After the Skeeters made it a one-run game in their half of the sixth, Round Rock added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Curtis Terry got the Express on the board in the second inning with a three-run home run. He also added an RBI single in the seventh inning. Jason Martin homered for Round Rock as well, with a solo homer to lead off the fifth inning.
The Skeeters return home for their first ever Triple A game at Constellation Field at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday against the El Paso Chihuahuas.
