KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones (19-29) earned a split in their two-game series against the Wichita Wingnuts (27-22) with a 6-3 victory in front of 7,289 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Independence Day.
The Wingnuts took an early lead against Devin Anderson (4-6) in the second, using three straight one-out singles to force in the first run before a two-out, two-run single by Jose Duran made the score 3-0.
That was all Anderson would allow over six innings of work as the left-hander surrendered three runs on seven hits while striking out six.
Chad Sherman (1-1) held the T-Bones scoreless until the third inning when Ray Sadler hit a three-run home run to tie the game at three. Kansas City took the lead in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Aharon Eggleston.
Sherman suffered the loss after allowing four run on eight hits in four innings.
Eggleston drove in another run with a single in the sixth to give the T-Bones a two-run advantage. Prentice Redman opened the seventh with a solo home run to cap the score at 6-3.
Martin Dewald and Steven Stewart each threw a scoreless inning of relief for Kansas City. Andy Shipman earned his ninth save with a perfect ninth.
Jimmy Mojica extended his hit streak to nine games with a three-for-four performance. Eggleston and Redman also collected three hits for Kansas City.
The T-Bones have an off-day on Tuesday before heading to Wichita for a single game on Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 7:05. To catch all the action while the team is on the road, listen live on KUDL Radio Bach 1660 AM or online at www.tbonesbaseball.com.
