Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, Ind. - Three first inning runs by the Sioux Falls Pheasants set the tone for Tuesday's contest at U. S. Steel Yard as the Gary SouthShore RailCats dropped an 8-1 decision.

The Pheasants (23-28) tallied three in the first frame of the ballgame and remained in the driver's seat the rest of the way to earn the series split with the RailCats (30-21). A five-run seventh inning by Sioux Falls capped off by a Mark Shorey three-run blast sealed the fate of the RailCats, who remain in first place in the Central Division of the American Association by 2.5 games with the Wichita Wingnuts idle this evening.

Sidearm starter Ben Moore (7-2, 2.47) was excellent for the visitors holding the 'Cats bats to just one run on five hits over his seven innings of work to earn the victory. Despite Moore's strong performance, Mike Rohde continued his recent tear at the plate collecting another pair of hits and improving to 13-26 against Sioux Falls pitchers this season. Toddric Johnson also added two hits including the only extra-base hit for the RailCats, a double in the ninth.

RHP Jack Frawley took the loss for the RailCats allowing seven runs (five earned) on eight hits over his 6.1 innings of work despite five consecutive scoreless innings.

The RailCats take the day off tomorrow but will travel to St. Paul to take on the Saints for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch on Thursday, July 7. Catch every pitch live on 89.1 FM The Lakeshore with the voice of the RailCats Tim "Woody" Calderwood.
