Winnipeg 7, St. Paul 3
Goldeyes starting pitcher Andrew Walker got taken out of the park twice in the first inning, but the Oklahoma boy buckled down after that - surrendering just two more hits and no runs, giving his teammates in the Winnipeg lineup a chance to make up the difference. By the time Winnipeg DH Justin Bass had homered in the fourth, his only hit of the game, the Goldeyes led by four. That advantage held, as Winnipeg took a 7-3 win. Walker left the contest after eight innings, having retired 18 of the last 20 batters he faced. The two St. Paul homers in the first came via 3B Ronnie Bourquin and 1B Richard Mercado, the fifth of the season for both.
Sioux Falls 8, Gary SouthShore 1
Each Sioux Falls batter reached first safely at least once Tuesday night. But no offensive performance outdid that of Pheasants DH Mark Shorey, who scored twice and batted in four runs. The majority of the 6-foot lefty's stat line came near the end of the night on a seventh-inning three-run homer, Shorey's seventh of the year. While Shorey and the Pheasants lineup were busy lighting up the scoreboard, Sioux Falls starting pitcher Ben Moore was taking care of business on the mound. Moore went seven innings and struck out five while allowing only one run on five hits. That lone RailCats run came in the second inning when 1B Mike Rohde drove in RF Toddric Johnson. Rohde went 2-for-3 on the night.
Amarillo 14, Shreveport-Bossier 7
With the score tied at three runs apiece in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Sox lineup put on a show at the plate. With one out on the board, Amarillo put together a string of four consecutive extra-base hits. In that stretch, the Sox scored five runs and by the end of the frame held a 10-3 lead. The third and fourth extra-base knocks came from 1B Cyle Hankerd and DH Lee Cruz, who each went 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBI. Continuing the parallels in their games, Hankerd and Cruz belted back-to-back homers in the fifth, Hankerd's sixth and Cruz' 11th of the year. Captains 1B/3B Andres Rodriguez led all players with four RBI, including a two-run homer in the ninth. But that shot was the Captains' last hit, as C/PH Andrew Kuhn grounded out on the very next at-bat to end the game.
Fargo-Moorhead 16, Sioux City 6
Both the RedHawks and Explorers had multiple batters hit home runs Tuesday night. But Fargo-Moorhead's three round-trippers totaled seven runs while the pair of Sioux City batters who knocked the ball out over the outfield wall both did so with the bases empty. A large chunk of the RedHawks offense came in the fourth inning, when Fargo-Moorhead 2B Carlo Cota hit a three-run homer to bring the fifth, sixth and seventh runs of the inning across home plate. Cota was joined in the home run club by teammates DH Jesse Hoorelbeke and C Phil Britton, with the Sioux City homers coming off the bats of 1B Kent Sakamoto and C Ray Serrano.
Lincoln 10, El Paso 2
The SaltDogs used six singles in the seventh to put up five runs and stretch what was a narrow, one-run lead to a dominant six-run advantage. Each player in the top third of the Lincoln lineup - CF Blake Gailen, LF Gavin Dickey and 1B Phil Hawke - each scored two runs, with DH Jeff Howell leading all batters with three RBI. Starting SaltDogs pitcher John James threw seven innings and allowed just one run on four hits with two strikeouts. The Diablos' first run came in the first, when 3B Johan Garcia grounded out to the shortstop, bringing around RF Stephen Douglas. And El Paso didn't put another run on the board til the final frame.
