GARY, Ind. - The Sioux Falls Pheasants scored early and late on Tuesday night in an 8-1 rout of the Gary SouthShore RailCats, splitting a four-game series with the Central Division's first place team.

The Pheasants have defeated Gary SouthShore in four of seven games this year and won five of their last seven games.

Pheasants starter Ben Moore (7-2) won his third consecutive start, allowing only one run and five hits in seven innings. Moore lowered his ERA to 2.47, second best among league starters. He fanned five RailCats and raised his league-leading strikeout total to 68.

The Pheasants took advantage of a RailCat error in the first to put runners at second and third with one out. Mark Shorey then drove home Trevor Lawhorn for the Pheasants' first run.

Francisco Leandro was later hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Reggie Abercrombie followed with a run-scoring single for the 3-0 lead.

Gary SouthShore scratched out a run on Mike Rohde's single in the second inning.

In the seventh, the Pheasants matched a season high with five runs in an inning. Hunter Jobes led off the frame with a single and scored on a throwing error. Gus Milner drove home Henry Contreras for the second run, and Shorey provided bookends on the night with a three-run home run to right field.

Shorey finished 2-for-5 with four RBI. He has seven home runs and 31 RBI for the season.

Sam Walls and Aaron Cotter each tossed a scoreless inning in relief to finish off the RailCats.

The Pheasants' record climbed to 23-28, eight games behind first-place St. Paul in the North Division.

The Pheasants are idle on Wednesday and begin a three-game, home-and-home series with the Sioux City Explorers at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, at Sioux Falls Stadium. It is Bark in the Park Night. Fans are encouraged to bring along their dog. Pooches can purchase a "ticket" for $5, with all proceeds benefitting the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. It's also Thirsty Thursday. Domestic drafts will be available for just $2 all night long.
