Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox went offensively crazy for the third straight night behind the bats of Cyle Hankerd and Lee Cruz, who both went 3-5 with a double, homerun, two runs scored and three RBI as the Sox swept the Shreveport-Bossier Captains with a 14-7 victory in front of 1,642 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium on Tuesday night.

Sox starter Matt Elliott (5-2) got the win, allowing just six hits and three runs in seven innings of work. Captains starter Joel Kirsten (3-5) got the loss, allowing 13 runs off 16 hits in four and two-thirds innings pitched.

The Sox took the lead in the second inning as Van Pope singled with one out and went to third on a Tim Alberts single. With two outs, Kevin Butler hit a single to score Pope while Jason White doubled to score Alberts for a two-run lead.

The Captains responded in the third as Mike Provencher and Robert Perry both walked and advanced on a wild pitch. With two outs, Andres Rodriguez hit a ball through the left side of the infield to score both runners and tie the game 2-2.

Amarillo retook the lead in the third inning as Matt Tucker doubled and scored on a Lee Cruz RBI double. Shreveport-Bossier came right back with a solo homerun by Uriak Marquez to tie the game 3-3 in the top of the fourth.

The Sox utilized a big fourth inning to take the lead for good. The Sox score seven runs off seven hits. Five of the seven hits were extra base hits for a 10-3 advantage.

Fehlandt Lentini added an RBI double in the fifth inning while Cyle Hankerd and Cruz hit back-to-back homeruns to chase Kirsten and give Amarillo a ten-run lead.

Each team exchanged runs in the bottom of the seventh and the top of the eighth for a 14-4 score.
