Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - After a solid outing by Kansas City starter Kris Regas, the T-Bones took game two of Tuesday night's doubleheader, 4-0, splitting with Grand Prairie in front of 5,035 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The club saw its six-game winning streak come to an end in a 4-3 loss to Grand Prairie in game one.
In the third inning of a scoreless second game, Ryan Cavan launched his third home run of the season that gave Kansas City the only run it would need against Grand Prairie starter Brett Wallach (0-5).
Kansas City added to its lead in the fifth inning, rallying against Grand Prairie reliever Dylan Rucker. Jacob Hayes smacked a triple into deep center, his first of the season. Ryan Cavan then singled to center, scoring Hayes. Cavan advanced to second on a wild throw to first by Rucker, and then to third on a groundout by Jake Blackwood. After Adam Bailey walked, Kyle Robinson connected for a two-RBI double to deep left field, scoring both Cavan and Bailey, giving Kansas City a 4-0 lead.
Regas (3-2), who set a T-Bones record in saves last season, faced one over the minimum in 5 innings. Fernando Hernandez (7) got the save, allowing only one hit in 2 innings pitched.
In game one, the T-Bones squandered prime opportunities to score during the final two innings.
In the sixth, Kansas City had runners at second and third with no outs after back-to-back singles by Bailey and Robinson. But then Vladimir Frias flew out to left, Bailey was thrown out at home on a grounder to third by Robby Kuzdale, and then Kuzdale was forced out at second on a grounder by Brian Erie.
The T-Bones once again had runners at second and third, this time with one out, in the seventh, before Blackwood struck out and Robinson ended the game with a groundout, with a final score of 4-3.
The Kansas City T-Bones (22-17) and Grand Prairie AirHogs (18-27) are scheduled to play game three of the four-game series Wednesday morning at 11:05 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618.
