Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

On the back of eight shutout innings from starting pitcher Charle Rosario, the Gary SouthShore RailCats ended a five-game losing skid Tuesday to shutout the league's top offense in the Sioux City Explorers, 1-0.

The Explorers (33-13), who lead the American Association with a .306 team batting average, were kept off the board and bases by Rosario, the 'Cats ace.

Rosario gave up only four hits and one walk on four strikeouts through his eight innings., lowering his ERA to 3.90 on the season.

Rosario, who notched his fourth straight quality start in the team's first shutout of the year, was pulled after throwing 111 pitches, giving way for Andy Loomis to earn his league-leading 11th save of the year by working a perfect 1-2-3 ninth inning.

X's starter Jeff Marquez nearly matched Rosario's efforts with eight innings of one-run baseball.

The 'Cats (21-22) difference maker came across in the second inning on an Alex Crosby RBI double. The RBI was the first of Crosby's young career.

Gary SouthShore and Sioux City square off again Wednesday as Andy Roberts(0-4), who sports a 1.99 ERA at the U.S. Steel Yard, takes on righty Patrick Johnson (5-0) for the X's.
