July 7, 2015 - American Association (AA) News Release
Sioux Falls 12, Lincoln 11
The Sioux Fall Canaries rallied out of a one-run deficit in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk off on Lincoln Saltdogs 12-11.
Both teams scored four runs in the eighth inning - Lincoln did so with a grand slam from DH Curt Smith while LF Brian Humphries, 3B RJ Perucki and C Tyler Shover had RBI singles and Perucki scored on a fielder's choice by SS Vicklash Ranjit. Those runs gave the Saltdogs an 11-10 lead heading into the ninth. Reliever Chase Johnson, who earned the win, struck out the side in the top of the ninth to preserve the score line. In the bottom of the inning, Humphries doubled home PR Michael Wing to tie the score and then he scored the game-winning run on a single by CF Jason Repko.
Humphries led the Canaries with four hits in five at bats but five other Canaries had multi-hit games including 2B Harrison Kain and Ramjit who each had two RBI. For the Saltdogs, Smith went 3-for-5 and scored thrice and had five RBI. LF Matt Forgatch went 4-for-5 and added a pair of RBI.
Fargo-Moorhead 3, Winnipeg 2
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks broke the 2-2 tie in the seventh inning and held on to claim a 3-2 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
The score was tied after the first inning as CF Adam Heisler hit a lead-off home run for the Goldeyes and CF Drew Muren scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the frame. Muren gave the RedHawks a lead in the third inning with a solo home run but in the fourth, the Goldeyes leveled the score. 2B Brad Boyer scored LF Jon Weber on a sacrifice fly to tie the score at two.
In the bottom of the seventh, 1B Joe Bonfe scored the eventual game-winning run on a sacrifice fly by DH Joe Staley.
St. Paul 14, Ottawa 5
The St. Paul Saints racked up 17 hits as they took care of the Ottawa Champions 14-5 in an interleague affair.
The Champions struck first as C Bryce Massanari singled home CF Sebastien Boucher. The Saints responded in the second with an RBI single from 3B Dan Kaczrowski and a three-run home run by 2B Alonzo Harris. Both LF Mike Schwartz and 1B Jon Talley homered in the third to tie the score but in the bottom of the inning, seven Saints scored on six hits to take control of the game. On the night, Harris went 4-for-6 with four RBI to lead his team. C Mike Kvasnicka also had four hits and scored three runs and Kaczrowski had three hits, two RBI and two runs scored.
For the Champions, Schwartz had a team-high two RBI and DH Alex Nunez had a team-high two hits.
Sioux City 4, Gary SouthShore 1
The Sioux City Explorers' pitching staff held the Gary SouthShore RailCats scoreless for eight innings and that was plenty of time for the offense to produce enough offense on the way to a 4-1 win.
Starting pitcher Ryan Zimmerman, who picked up the win, went six innings and allowed just three hits. He also had three strikeouts. Reliever Rob Wort worked the seventh and eighth without allowing a hit and registering three strikeouts. David Herndon gave up the only run but still closed the door in the ninth. Offensively, RF Michael Lang went 4-for-5 with two RBI and SS Noah Perio added three hits. 2B Ryan Court went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
For the RailCats, five different batters each had one hit and RF Drew Martinez had the team's lone RBI.
