T-Birds Fall To Winter Hawks In Exhibition

Portland, September 12, 2008 - The Portland Winter Hawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-2 Friday night in an exhibition game at Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

The T-Birds are now 3-3 in the preseason and have one exhibition game remaining before the start of the season.

The T-Birds only home exhibition game of the preseason is Saturday, September 13, at 6 p.m. at Kent Valley Ice Centre against the Portland Winter Hawks. Tickets can be purchased by calling the T-Birds at 206- 448-PUCK, at any Ticketmaster outlet or at Kent Valley Ice Centre. Tickets are just $12.

The Winter Hawks took a 1-0 lead at 2:50 of the second period on a power-play goal by Colin Reddin. Killian Hutt had the only assist on the goal.

Portland took a 2-0 lead at 8:41 of the second on a goal by Hutt. Oliver Gabriel and David Watt had the assist.

Lindsay Nielsen put the T-Birds on the board at 11:30 of the second when he scored a power-play goal. Defenseman Brenden Dillon found Nielsen at the side of the net for a tap in goal. Jeremy Boyer had the second assist.

The Winter Hawks got the two-goal lead back at 15:11 of the second on an unassisted power-play goal by Hutt. It was Hutt's second goal of the night.

Reddin gave the Winter Hawks a 4-1 lead with under three minutes to go in the second when he scored at 17:40. Brad Ross and Hutt had the assist.

The Winter Hawks outshot the T-Birds 11-10 in the second period and led 23-18 in total shots going into the second intermission.

Seattle cut the Portland lead to two goals at 3:57 of the third period when Devon LeBlanc scored. Boyer and Dillon had the assists.

Hutt got his third goal of the night at 4:26 of the third on assists from Troy Rutkowski and Collin Reddin.

Seattle started Calvin Pickard in net and he stopped 30 of 35 shots.

Jordan White played the whole game in goal for the Winter Hawks and had 25 saves on 27 shots.

The T-Birds open the season on September 19 on the road against the Prince George Cougars at 7 p.m.

The first home game is October 4 at KeyArena against the Spokane Chiefs at 7:05 p.m.

T-Birds season tickets are also currently on sale. Season tickets can be purchased by calling the T- Birds office at 425-869-7825. Purchasing a season ticket will ensure fans can attend both the home opener at the KeyArena on October 4 and the T-Birds first game in their new home, the Kent Events Center.
