Everett Downs Tri-City 3-1 in Final Pre-Season Tune-Up

KENNEWICK, WA - Backed by two third period goals, the Everett Silvertips skated away with a 3-1 victory over the Tri-City Americans in each team's final pre-season tune-up before the regular season kicks-off next week. With the loss, the Americans finish with a pre-season record of 4-4, while Everett improved to 4-3.

Scoring just 22 seconds into the contest, the Tri-City Americans got things started early. Drew Hoff notched his second goal of the post-season, with assists from Petr Stoklasa and Brett Plouffe.

However, just three minutes later, the 'Tips responded with Paul Van de Velde's first of two goals on the evening.

Still tied at 1-apiece entering the third period, Everett got two goals in a four-minute span midway through the period, courtesy of Shane Harper and Van de Velde. 'Tips goaltender, Shayne Barrie, picked up the win after collecting 21 saves on 22 shots. Tri-City starter, Drew Owsley, picked up three saves in 32 minutes of action, while reliever, Brett Martyniuk, stopped six of the eight shots he faced in the loss.

Everett will kick-off their sixth season of WHL action next week against the Vancouver Giants. Meanwhile, the Tri-City Americans will return to the Toyota Center on Saturday, September 20 to launch their defense of their U.S. Division title. The Americans will open against the B.C. Division's Kelowna Rockets. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
