
Chiefs Drop 2-1 Decision To Kelowna

Two second period power play goals lifted the visiting Kelowna Rockets to a one goal win over the Spokane Chiefs on Friday night in the defending Memorial Cup Champion's lone home pre-season game. The loss drops the Chiefs to 3-3 with one game remaining before the regular season begins next Thursday, September 18th in Kootenay against the Ice. Spokane will travel on Saturday night to Kelowna to finish the home-and-home series.
After a scoreless first period, the Rockets took advantage of a checking-from-behind double minor by Levko Koper with a goal by Stepan Novotny at 3:24 of the second. Kelowna's Kyle St. Denis scored on a two-man advantage at 5:16 with assists from Evan Bloodoff and Spencer Main.
The Chiefs lone goal, a power play marker, was tallied at 10:09 of the second by Mike Betz. Brett Bartman and Mike Reddington assisted on the play.
James Reid went the distance in net for the Chiefs and stopped 34 shots. Dylan Tait had 27 saves for the Rockets.
Spokane was 1-3 on the power play and 5-7 on the penalty kill.
Spokane will play the first game in the WHL regular season when they travel to Cranbrook to take on the Kootenay Ice on Thursday, September 18th. Gametime is scheduled for 6:30. Mike Boyle will go on the air at 6:00 with Comcast Hockey Tonight on 1510 KGA. The game can also be seen live on Comcast channel 78.
The home portion of the regular season will begin on Saturday, September 27th when the Chiefs host the Tri-City Americans on Bud Light Opening Night. The Chiefs and The Black Book by Hagadone Directories will be handing out replica banners to the first 3,000 fans through the gates as well as full season ticket holders.
Tickets for alls home games will go on sale Thursday, September 4th at 9:00 am at the Chiefs office or by calling TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
